Students will learn the 6 essential nutrients. What they are, why we need them, how our bodies use them, and what happens to our bodies when we do not get enough of them. We will make use of lecture, discussion, question and answer, KWL charts, Kahoot, and video clips if time allows. We may do a project or form of outside homework to bring back to a session and share out depending on the class makeup. Students will be able to analyze the relationship of nutrition and wellness to individual health. Students will be able to design strategies that meet the health and nutrition needs of an individual. Students will also analyze the influence of culture, peers, media, and family as well as other factors on health behaviors.
I cover this unit in my food and nutrition courses in the public school system.
One article will be provided for outside reading, depending on the specific section and interest of learners a short project may potentially be assigned. No work outside of class should take longer than two hours.
Learners will be assessed based on participation in discussion.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
