5th Grade Summer Bootcamp! Get Ready for 6th Grade!

Is your child ready to tackle 6th grade math with confidence? In this interactive and engaging course, we’ll review the most important 5th grade math concepts to ensure a strong foundation for middle school success!
Class

What's included

8 live meetings
7 hrs 20 mins in-class hours
Assignments
1 hour per week. Students will have the option to practice skills review in class through online platforms such as Quiziz, IXL, or Khan Academy.
Assessment
Students will take a short quiz at the end of each class to check for mastery. Results will be shared with parent along with recommendations for further support or practice.

Intermediate Level
Is your child ready to tackle 6th grade math with confidence? In this interactive and engaging course, we’ll review the most important 5th grade math concepts to ensure a strong foundation for middle school success!

Each week, we'll dive into key topics including:

Place value with decimals and whole numbers

Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions

Operations with decimals

Measurement Conversion

Understanding volume, area, and perimeter

Basic algebraic thinking and patterns

Interpreting graphs and data

Students will engage in a variety of activities such as math games, problem-solving challenges, collaborative discussions, and short quizzes to track their growth. The class is designed to boost confidence, reinforce essential skills, and clear up any lingering confusion before moving forward.

Learning Goals

Students will strengthen foundational math skills by reviewing and mastering key 5th grade concepts such as fractions, decimals, and volume to prepare for the demands of 6th grade math.
Students will develop problem-solving strategies by practicing multi-step word problems and applying mathematical reasoning across a variety of topics.

Lesson 1:
Decimal Place Value through the Thousandths Place
 Students will review decimal place value to the thousandths place. Topics discussed are rounding, comparing decimals, and multiplying and dividing by powers of ten.

Lesson 2:
Multiplying Multi- Digit Numbers
 Students will review dividing with 2 digit divisors using standard algorithm or partial quotients. Students will also practice applying the skill to multi step word problems.

Lesson 3:
Long Division with 2 Digit Divisors
 Students will review dividing with 2 digit divisors using standard algorithm or partial quotients. Students will also practice applying the skill to multi step word problems.

Lesson 4:
Decimal Operations and Word Problems
 Students will review adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals using standard algorithms. Students will also practice applying these skills to solve real-world, multi-step word problems involving money and measurement.

Other Details

Pre-Requisites
Students should have gone through 5th grade math and are preparing for 6th grade!
Supply List
pencil, notebook or paper (a notebook can keep your notes for the entire 8 weeks), whiteboard and expo marker, and a computer if you would like additional practice/support outside of class.

I have taught for the last 6 years in upper elementary (5th and 6th grade math) in Colorado and Kentucky. I know the standards very well and plan to teach many strategies to help students feel successful and confident as they walk into 6th grade math.
