Class Experience

Students will learn the National Standards for Science for Grade five Science.
The following areas of science will be taught:

Matter- 5PS1-1, 5PS1-2, 5PS1-3, 5PS1-4
Force and Motion- 5PS2-1
Energy- 5PS3-1
My background includes teaching science classes for more than 37 years. Fifth grade science is a critical year for understanding basics of general science that will be built on in middle school and high school science classes. I have degrees in education and a concentration in middle school sciences.
Students will be given homework challenges that are optional, but intended to support the learning from the weekly lessons.
A supply list of common or inexpensive materials will be posted into the classroom after signing up for the course.
The teacher will periodically check on student understanding of the topics at hand. The class will be interactive as students will be encouraged to participate through chat or discussion.
3 hours 40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Occasional help and supervision with cutting or burning things.
