Class Experience
[1st of four 9-week sessions] This course takes a modified, thematic approach to 5th Grade Science. It offers content that is typically taught during the first 9-weeks in a traditional 5th grade science class. Students will learn there are different states of matter and matter has different properties in each of the states. Students will perform investigations that demonstrate how properties of matter either change or remain the same after certain types of reactions. The students will also...
Students will improve their understanding of what all matter is made of. They will improve their understanding of solids, liquids and gases. They will also understand how chemical react. Engaged students will improve their ability to respond to state assessment questions on 5th grade science content.
I am a 22-year licensed Instructor. I have been privileged to instruct thousands of students. 96% of my engaged students are successful on state assessments. I hold a Science Degree in Biology with a Minor in Chemistry. Currently, In addition, I have a Master’s in Instructional Technology pending with a 4.00 GPA. I have taught all science courses from grade Kindergarten to post-graduate courses to include Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, AP Biology, Microbiology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, Physical Science, Environmental Science and many others.
The students will have homework after each class. They will be asked recall and open-ended questions where they will have to apply what they learned to correctly answer the question. I ask that the students review what was what they learned every day. Optional: I ask that the students dedicate 15 - 20 minutes of study time each day.
Science notebook, pencil or pen. Materials recommended for lab experiments and class demos will be requested as needed.

The students will be assessed as they engage in discussions and as they interact in a question-answer session at the end of class. The students will periodically be given quizzes and/or formative assessments. This will guide my instruction. I will review what the students need. Please note: Grades are optional.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Google Classroom will be used to issue and receive optional homework assignments. Homework is optional. Kahoot is a platform only used to provide me with information on student understanding and progress.
