In this ongoing class I combine 2 of my curriculums! Your child will learn, review, and practice standards to help them be successful in 5th grade. We will learn new 5th grade reading and math standards in each class. Each day will be a new lesson, allowing students to have previously missed a day. We will begin each day with reading/grammar lessons, then transition into the math lesson. I will teach lessons by showing an example first, we will do practice problems together to get comfortable with the new topic. I allow students to often work in partners to practice skills. We will also play games once we are close to mastering that topic. You will find I am passionate about having students prove their answers. We will highlight answers in our text and draw pictures and create equations in math. We will discuss possible answers and work together to find the best one. I want students to feel heard and know it's not only ok - but good to make mistakes - it’s how we learn! Students will be encouraged to ask questions - questions give us answers, and answers help us succeed :) I believe students are learning best in a fun, laid back atmosphere where they feel safe and successful. Students will be using Nearpod in class, this is an approved sight. I use this site so I can give them work, and see them as they work on it. I am the only one who can see this information.

Hello! My name is Mrs. Neal! I am a licensed teacher in the state of Indiana. I have been teaching on Outschool for five years, teaching 3rd - 6th reading/LA and Math! I taught 3rd grade for 7 years, and loved every second of it! I always knew I had a passion for math, but becoming a teacher taught me that I also have a love and passion for reading and teaching kids to love reading! My goal is always to create a classroom where students feel valued, successful, wanted, and smart! I keep my classroom positive and expect kindness and respect from all students.
I am also a mother of three, two boys ages 18 and 7 and a girl age 14. I did step away from the classroom four years ago in order to stay home with my kids. We live in Indiana during the summer and go to Florida for the winter months - I love showing my students the ocean and allowing them to see what we have seen on our adventures during the week.
