This class is taught in English.
In the first unit of our Math Mammoth series, 5th graders will embark on a comprehensive journey through essential math concepts. Students will start with the basics of order of operations and equations, ensuring a solid foundation in performing calculations correctly. They'll revisit and reinforce addition and subtraction, then dive deeper into multiplication and division, including strategies for working with larger numbers and understanding the multiplication algorithm. The course also covers long division with a focus on two-digit divisors, enhancing problem-solving skills. Learners will explore divisibility rules, factors, and primes, building their numerical understanding and ability to break down numbers into their prime components. The curriculum extends to developing number sense with large numbers, introducing students to place value up to billions, and practicing operations like adding, subtracting, and rounding these numbers. Additionally, the introduction of exponents and powers will open up new ways of expressing multiplication, alongside practical lessons on the effective use of calculators. By mastering these topics, students will strengthen their mathematical foundation, setting the stage for advanced learning in subsequent units and preparing them for future academic success.
