This will be an engaging, hands on, fifth grade math class! We will learn new skills through slides, videos, lecture, partner work, and hands on activities. This is an ongoing class so each week is independent, meaning you can join at any time! We will often practice the material we learned that week with either a game or activity in class - each class to have its own lesson with activities. I am a licensed teacher, and I have always loved teacher math! I also love to get to know the students in my class and allow them to get to know each other. As a teacher I understand the more I get to know my students and build a relationship with them the better the classroom environment becomes! This is an ongoing class - however most students usually end up staying once they join - allowing students to make friends and become comfortable with other students in class. I have been a teacher for nine years, and I am excited to teach your fifth grade student from the comfort of your home! Week 1 - 2 Place Value, Rounding, get to know each other and rules of the classroom. Learn to use functions on zoom, Nearpod, and Blooket. Week 3- Fractions on a number line / compare fractions / mixed numbers Week 4- Addition/Subtraction word problems and Introduction to exponents Week5- Multiplication multi digit numbers by 2 and 3 digits, Exponents / order of operation Week6- long division with 1 divisors, division with no remainders Week 7- Long division with remainders Week7 - Converting, simplifying, equivalent fractions Week8- Add and subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators Week9- Multiply and Divide Fractions Week 10- Intro to Decimals: Decimal place value/Decimals on a grid/compare decimals Week 11 - Decimals on a number line / Decimal as fractions Week 12: Add/Subtract Decimals/ Money Week 13 - Multiply/Divide Decimals by 10, 100, 1000 + Multiply simple decimal by whole number Week 14- Multiplication/ division of more difficult decimals +Real world problems Week 15- Multiply Decimals activity, + Roman Numerals + 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication SECOND SEMESTER Starts January 8th 2024 Week 16- Graphs (Bar, Circle, Line Plot) + long division review Week 17-- Review 2 digit multiplication, Area of rectangles, l shapes Week 18- 2 and 3digit multiplication, Volume of rectangular prisms Week19- Area / Perimeter missing sides / volume of rectangles and L shapes Week20- Area of Triangles Week21- Area of parallelograms and trapezoids / word problems with area of all shapes Week 22- Diameter and Radius of circles / Circumference & Area of circles Week 23- Mean, Median, Mode, Range Week 24- Probability Week 25- Order of Operations, intro to exponents Week 26 - Order of operations Week 27 Algebra- intro to variables Week 28- Algebra- solve for variables Week 29 - Algebra- multistep and solving with 2 variables Week 30 Ratios - and multistep word problems Week 31 - Factoring, LCM, GCF Week 32 - Fractions!! Parental Guidance
Students will use Nearpod in this class, Nearpod is a safe and COPPA approved site. Nearpod allows me to give students practice pages that I have made - while they work, I can see their work. This allows me to see if the class is understanding each topic and allows me to see any mistakes they are making.

Hello! My name is Mrs. Neal! I am a licensed teacher in the state of Indiana. I have been teaching on Outschool for five years, teaching 3rd - 6th reading/LA and Math! I taught 3rd grade for 7 years, and loved every second of it! I always knew I had a passion for math, but becoming a teacher taught me that I also have a love and passion for reading and teaching kids to love reading! My goal is always to create a classroom where students feel valued, successful, wanted, and smart! I keep my classroom positive and expect kindness and respect from all students.
I am also a mother of three, two boys ages 18 and 7 and a girl age 14. I did step away from the classroom four years ago in order to stay home with my kids. We live in Indiana during the summer and go to Florida for the winter months - I love showing my students the ocean and allowing them to see what we have seen on our adventures during the week.
