In this semester long ongoing course, learners will receive instruction on national 5th grade math standards using real-world problems to gain understanding of concepts.
Class experience
US Grade 5
Each week learners will receive instruction in national math standards for 5th grade. The following topics will be covered (1st four weeks are listed): Week of August 21st: Understanding place value to include decimal place value Week of August 28th: Understanding that the value of a digit moved to the left is 10x more than it was; moved right it is 1/10 of the value Week of September 4th: Introduce powers of 10: work with numeracy using powers of ten Week of September 11: Orders of operation...
In this semester, learners will compute whole numbers and decimals using all elementary operands. Learners will be given real-life scenarios that require use of mathematical concepts.
Instructor is a certified educator with 15 years of classroom experience, 10 of which were with 5th grade. Instructor also has 8 years of online instruction experience. Instructor has an Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction as well as certificates in gifted education and reading.
Homework Offered
Homework will be given at the end of each session. Homework should only take 30 minutes to complete each day. Learners will submit responses to the classroom conversation thread. Instructor will provide feedback on all submissions prior to each session.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Learners will be given formative and summative assessments each week. Grades will be communicated with each parent along with suggestions for next steps toward continued growth.Grades Offered
