Two homework assignments will be posted each week!Class Experience
US Grade 5
***Not necessary to take part 1 or 2 to join this class! ***If your child takes all 4 parts then they will cover then entire 5th grade curriculum! In this FLEX class students will learn to convert measurements in both the Metric and Customary Systems. We will also learn about Geometry topics! Each week: ~ A math mini lesson video will be posted on Monday and Wednesday each week! ~ At least one game per week will be posted ~ A homework assignment will be posted on Monday and Wednesday. Students will complete the assignment and submit a picture of their work to me through a message by 5pm EST each Friday. I will provide feedback on each assignment and the students will make corrections and resubmit. ~ students will write their own word problem at the end of each week and post it in the classroom page. Other students will solve their problem! Student to student interaction: ~ Students can post a picture of their points after playing the game! Student to Teacher interaction: ~ The student will complete two homework assignments each week and submit them to me via message. I will give prompt feedback to the student so that they can submit corrections! Week 1: Converting between length and weight in the customary system Week 2: Convert capacity in the customary system. Mixed review of the customary system. Week 3: Convert length within the metric system, real life word problems! Week 4: Convert weight and capacity in the metric system. Week 5: What is volume? Finding volume of rectangular prisms, real life word problems. Will include fractional edge lengths as well! Week 6: Classify 2 dimensional shapes. Draw and classify quadrilaterals: trapezoids, parallelograms, rhombuses, squares, and rectangles. Find the area of squares and rectangles. Finding the area of squares and rectangles with fractional edge lengths. Word problems. Week 7: Geometry Review Week 8: Measurement Review

Hi!! I’m Mrs. Drye. I have a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from UNC Chapel Hill and a Masters Degree in Middle Grades Math Education from UNC-Charlotte. I was a NC Teaching Fellow and Teacher of the Year when I taught 6th grade math! As a teacher I focus on building relationships with students so that I can help them to build their math confidence. I focus on differentiating learning for each of my students. I can extend learning for some learners while helping others to review a topic that’s tough for them. I encourage students to share their math thinking and guide them in learning new strategies. I also keep class fun and exciting with games, discussion, and songs! I taught 5th and 6th grade for 8 years before deciding to stay home and homeschool my three girls. My daughters are now 10, 8, and almost 6! I enjoy exploring new places, teaching, and exercising!
