Class Experience
This year long, ongoing course will cover the 5th Grade Math Common Core Standards. Students can enroll for specific topics or stay enrolled for the entire course. I Can: 1. Read, write and compare decimals to thousandth 2. Add and subtract decimals to hundredths using models and strategies 3. Fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm 4. Use models and strategies to divide whole numbers 5. Apply understanding of multiplication to multiply fractions 6. Solve real world problems involving multiplication of fractions and mixed numbers 7. Apply understanding of division to divide unit fractions with whole numbers 8. Multiply decimals to hundredths using models and strategies 9. Solve real world problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions 10. Solve real world and mathematical problems involving volume
Students will have homework assigned to them every week. They will have several options to choose from which will include solving real world problems, creating a presentation to teach the class or a traditional worksheet. Homework should take no more than 45 minutes every week.
Students will have several assessments throughout the course. There will be short quizzes, quick checks, and tests given throughout each unit.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
