Description
Class Experience
This class is taught in English.
Students will be learning 5th grade Common Core Math Standards.
I have a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Business Management. I have been a licensed teacher for 10 years, and worked in a classroom as a math teacher during that time.
While homework is "optional", practice is an important part of the learning process and vital to mastery of math concepts. Students will be provided a mix of digital homework, as well as paper based homework that will need to be printed (or transcribed to notebook paper). Homework is self-graded by families and an answer key will be provided. *Homework Help* - Students or parents are encouraged to reach out with homework questions and bring questions to the following class meeting. *Additional support can be provided upon request.
PLEASE ensure your child has a personal whiteboard each day for our class meetings! I do constant checks throughout class and need to visually see the steps students are taking to problem solve and provide guidance. With a whiteboard, students can hold up their work and I can give immediate feedback. 🎉 **Students will also need sharpened pencils, notebook or looseleaf paper. **Second device to play Kahoot or Gimkit game on (tablet, iPad, phone) A second device is not required but encouraged. If your learner does not have a second device, please be sure to watch the video tutorial on how to split your screen *before* class begins so that your learner will be prepared for class and can participate in the Kahoot game. https://youtu.be/W819LIH7EZM **Homework may be in the format of paper or digital. Please be prepared to print homework. Please contact me in advance if this is a problem and we can try to find a solution.
Exit tickets and quizzes will be given at the end of units to determine areas for continued focus.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
During this class we will be using two platforms, Kahoot and Gimkit, to interact with math topics and fellow students. Students do NOT need an account to participate. Students will be provided with an access code to be entered into the website, by navigating to www.kahoot.it or Gimkit.com/join. Students will be provided guidance during class, but it is recommended that you either: a.) have a second device available, or b.) are able to split your screen and have two internet windows side by side. Please view this video if you need to split your screen: https://youtu.be/XBXeQ7w_ILs Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. :)
