5th Grade Full Year Math

This is an ongoing 5th Grade Math class, which teaches an in-depth full year of 5th Grade curriculum. This class meets 1x a week and each week will cover a stand alone topic, with no previous knowledge required.

Homework
1 hour per week. Homework will be set at the end of each lesson and any feedback will be posted within the classroom. We offer assessments, grading and progress reports as requested by parents.

Class Experience

US Grade 5
What will be taught?:
This class teaches a full year’s fundamental concepts of Math for 5th grade on an ongoing basis. Learners can participate at any time during the year or they can stay the whole year. Math topics will rotate throughout the year for review and practice.

What topics will the class cover?:
Every week will focus on one topic and there will be homework for extra practice after class. Teachers are available to answer any questions and will give feedback on the homework. 


How is the class structured?:
Our lessons are always engaging because education is more than just academics, it is also about the social interactions you have while learning. Our classes are interactive discussions and we use games and other hands-on activities to engage every child in their learning. All of our classes are taught in a 100% inclusive and child-led environment. Our teachers are always inclusive of every child and adapt their teaching style to keep high levels of engagement and progression.

Week of September 2nd- Finding the value of a digit, Finding patterns in place value, Problem solving using place value
Week of September 9th- Reading, marking and explaining coordinates, Comparing measurement conversions 
Week of September 16th- Add fractions by finding a common denominator, Adding mixed number fractions
Week of September 23rd- Subtracting fractions from whole numbers, Evaluate expressions with brackets
Week of September 30th- Solve problems with a coordinate grid, Graphing problems with a coordinate grid
Week of October 7th- Represent real world problems by graphing points, Creating line plots
Week of October 14th- Answering questions about line plots, Using Line plots to solve problems
Week of October 21st- Multiply and divide by powers of ten, Power of ten and exponents
Week of October 28th- Explaining patterns in powers of ten, Using powers of ten with exponent
Week of November 4th- Solving fraction word problems, Multistep fraction word problems
Week of November 11th- Understanding decimal place value, Read and write decimals
Week of November 18th- Write and Interpret expressions
Week of November 25th- NO CLASS Fall Break
Week of December 2nd-  Triangles: Describe 2D shape attributes, Classifying 2d shape attributes
