What will be taught?: This class teaches a full year’s curriculum of math, english including; reading, writing, grammar/phonics and spelling; science, including hands-on experiments and social studies including civics for 5th grade on a flexible schedule. No live meetings will take place but lots of fun, hands-on videos will be posted to complete at your leisure. Learners can interact with the teacher and other learners and take part in the set activities. What topics will the class cover?: Each week, we will have rotational lessons in English, Math, Science and Social Studies. There will be activities posted for math, English, and spelling practice each week. Teachers are available to answer any questions and will give feedback on the homework. How is the class structured?: Our Flex classes provide the opportunity to participate in a fun engaging class on a schedule that works for you. Our classes include interactive games and other hands-on activities as well as physical movement to engage every child in their learning. All of our classes are taught in a 100% inclusive and child-led environment. Week 1 -Grammar- Nouns and Prepositions -Spelling- Students will have a spelling list each week -Math- Explaining patterns in powers of ten Using powers of ten with exponent -Civics- Citizenship. What is it? -Science- What Is Matter Made Of -Reading- Fable Week 2 -Reading-Fantasy -Spelling- Students will have a spelling list each week -Math- Solving fraction word problems Multistep fraction word problems -Geography- Buffalo, Opossum, Raccoons! Where are they from? Let's find their place on the map! -Writing- What is the best thing about getting older? -Science- Identifying Substances Week 3 -Grammar-Pronouns. Personal, Possessive, Relative, Intensive, Reflexive -Reading- Fiction -Spelling- Students will have a spelling list each week -Math-Understanding decimal place value Read and write decimals -Science- Materials and Matter -Civics- Family. Let's talk about the responsibilities of families as a unit. Why? -Spelling- Students will have a spelling list each week -Geography- Jaguars, Sloth, Capybaras! Where are they from? Learning Goals
Children will learn the foundations they need within the 5th grade curriculum (Part 2) using hands-on and child-led learning styles on a flexible schedule watching pre-recorded lessons.
