In this 2x per week, 13 week class, students will read the books "Esperanza Rising" and "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind," discussing with peers and completing reading, writing, and vocabulary activities with in-class support.

Class Experience

US Grade 5

Students will be reading the books "Esperanza Rising" (by Pam Munoz Ryan) and "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" (by  William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer), as well as supplementary texts and materials that I will post in the classroom. 

Each week, students will be assigned to read several chapters. Most novel reading will be done outside of class, and we will discuss the reading during class. Reading should be completed BEFORE the second class of each week so that students are prepared for...

Homework Offered
Students will have assigned reading to complete independently each week (please see the class description for specific pages). They will complete some activities each week independently, including questions about the reading, vocabulary activities, and writing assignments.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Each student will be given feedback on assignments they submit in a timely manner, as well as a written report at the end of the class.

0Hard copy or digital copy of two novels:
"Esperanza Rising" (by Pam Munoz Ryan) and "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" (by  William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer)
Printables and downloadables as posted weekly in the Classroom.
