Class Experience

Students will improve their reading comprehension.
Students will improve their analytical writing skills.
Students will enhance their creative writing skills.
Students will strengthen their ability to connect characters, events, and concepts found in a fictional work.
Students will increase their vocabulary.
Homework will be to read the assigned pages each week.
Your learner will need the following before class begins: Refugee by Alan Gratz The Westing Game By Ellen Raskin A few unlined sheets of paper. Colored pencils and a highlighter There will be two handouts students should print for class. (supplied by the teacher) * A physical copy of the book is ideal for highlighting and taking notes. However, if your learner prefers an electronic or library copy, I have additional handouts students may use for note-taking.
1 hour 40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
I believe there to be nothing inappropriate for ten-year-old students in our class novels. One is a fictional mystery, and the other is historical fiction with multiple settings. With this being said, I always encourage parents to preview novels before enrolling their learners.
