US Grade 5
Beginner Level
In this semi-introductory course, students will learn a variety of mathematical concepts over the course of 12 sessions. During this time, they will work on the following skills per week (with supplemental practice provided): Session 1- Reviewing adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers. Session 2- Multi-digit multiplication (two digit by two digit, and three digit by two digit) Session 3- Multi-digit multiplication (three digit by three digit) Session 4- Multi-Digit Division/ Review of Multi-digit multiplication and division Session 5- Adding Fractions/ Greatest Common Factor/Least Common Multiple Session 6- Subtracting Fractions Session 7- Multiplication of fractions/Improper to Mixed conversion Session 8- Division of Fractions Session 9- Adding and subtracting decimals Session 10- Multiplication of decimals Session 11- Division of decimals Session 12- Review of Decimals At the end of each unit (4 sessions), students will provided access to a virtual quiz through Google Forms for review of concepts as well as a review game from Kahoot to practice prior to the quiz. These quizzes may be used for academic grading purposes or enrichment. In addition, students will receive daily questions in the classroom to practice solving, as well as receive weekly practice to complete independently. During each class, I will introduce the topic, and provide step by step practice to learn how to solve the problem using standard algorithm (students may use other methods previously learned and will be supported in those, however for the purposes of the class for instruction standard algorithm will be utilized). Several practice problems will be presented, with opportunities to pause the video to permit students a chance to work through and solve as they learn/review the concept of the week. Students will also have Khan Academy pages made for them (no previous account needed) and have assignments issued to review content learned for each week (this is not required, but is being provided as an additional enrichment). Previous knowledge of multiplication and division of up to two digits, adding and subtracting common denominators in fractions, and adding and subtracting of decimals is preferred, but not required. Private tutoring is also available upon request for additional support in this concept.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to work through multi-digit multiplication and division (reviewing addition and subtraction).
Students will also learn how to add and subtract common and uncommon fractions, using Least Common Multiple to convert, and Greatest Common Factor to simplify, convert improper and mixed numbers, multiply and divide fractions.
Students will review adding and subtracting decimals, and learn to multiply and divide decimals by using multi-digit multiplication and division and learning where to place decimals.

12 Lessons
over 12 WeeksUnit 1: Multi-Digit Operations
Lesson 1:
Reviewing Adding and Subtracting Multi-Digit Numbers
Students will review how to add and subtract multi-digit numbers to the thousands in preparation for multi-digit multiplication and division.
Lesson 2:
Multi-Digit Multiplication (Two by Two and Three by Two)
Students will learn how to multiply two digit by two digit numbers using standard algorithm, and conclude with three digit by two digit numbers.
Lesson 3:
Multi-Digit Multiplication (Three by Three)
Students will review previous lesson and build on to skill by multiplying three digit by three digit numbers.
Lesson 4:
Multi-Digit Division
Students will learn how to divide using standard algorithm using two digit and three digit dividends, using two digit divisors.

Parental Guidance
Please ensure your student practices the skill sets with the supplemental material to ensure students learn the most material. Answer key is provided (not for quizzes however-please contact for that information).
Students will be given practice in both a digital form and paper for ease of access for families (Google Docs will be used for families wishing to complete assignments digitally, while PDFs will be provided if printing is preferred). An account is not needed for access.
Students will have access to Kahoot for reviewing strategies and extra practice with each unit. An account is not needed for access.
Students will also be given access to Khan Academy for additional enrichment. An account is not needed as one will be created for the student to use.
Supply List
Practice sheets will be provided weekly after each session to allow students to practice the skill we reviewed that week. Students will need pencil and paper to work problems out throughout class each session.

Doctoral Degree from Concordia Univerity
Master's Degree in Science from Kaplan University
Bachelor's Degree in Education from University of North Carolina Wilmington
I have taught as a 6th grade math teacher for one year, 5th grade math teacher for two years, and served as a private mathematics tutor and home-bound instructor for over 6 years. I have taught elementary math, as well as review classes, unit classes, and private tutored in mathematics on Outschool since January 2019. I have worked with various students from various backgrounds to help them master mathematics for over 10 years as a teacher, meeting the needs of various learning styles and needs. I am very familiar with digital learning and how to work with students online, including interactions and helping students understand material. I also integrate review for students to practice to show me how they are progressing. I stay on after the session ends if students need a bit more review, and offer tutoring to assist.
