Class Experience

There are so many options for online art classes, and it can be difficult to decide which ones will consistently benefit your child. That's why I have created this ongoing class for ages 10-11 which encompasses the basic art curriculum for that age range. (This age range correlates with 5th grade in the U.S.) Students will learn elements of perspective, size, and proportion, while expanding their knowledge of color theory, composition, and art history.

This course will equip students with these skills:
-Recognize and use primary, secondary, and tertiary colors.
-Draw and paint from observation.
-Identify and use one-point perspective in art.
-Create 3D forms using additive and subtractive sculpting techniques.
-Identify differences in abstract and realistic art.
-Use value to draw and paint 3D forms.

I am a strong believer in hands-on learning, so students will have the opportunity to create their own art in each class. Students will learn new concepts by watching educational videos, engaging in lively discussions, and of course putting their newfound knowledge to work in their own art pieces. I will be posting the materials needed for each class on the classroom page one week prior to the scheduled class.

Here is a class schedule, which is updated as we go:
Week of January 23rd: Color and Value- Shade Spheres to Make Planets
Week of January 30th:Color Theory- Use Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Colors to Paint Landscape
Week of February 6th: History- Learn About Andy Warhol and Make Pop Art
Week of February 13th: Perspective- Draw a cityscape
Week of February 20th: Value- Sketch 3D Cones

This class is beneficial to all learners, including neurodiverse students. I strive to create a fun, safe classroom environment for everyone, and value the input of all my students. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I am a professional artist, specializing in oil portrait paintings, and I have had the privilege of displaying my artwork in venues across the country. I believe that art is about self expression and learning, and I hope to create a fun, interactive environment where students can develop a love for art while building their confidence in a new skill.
I have always struggled with expecting “perfection” of myself, especially in my art, so I am constantly reminding my students, as well as myself, that perfection is not required, and that practice, not unreasonable expectations, is what a advances our skills.
My joy in teaching comes from the comments of my students and their parents, expressing that they created something they didn’t know was possible.
