Some topics will have optional homework assigned. Mrs. Cristina understands the needs of different families and that some families do not have a need for additional work. Mrs. Cristina will have extra assignments and will provide feedback for those families who are interested.Assessment
Students will be assessed through class projects, experiments and weekly assignments. Letter grade can be provided, by request, at the end of the semester based on participation and completion of work.Grading

Learners will greatly enjoy this pod style classroom. We will meet daily for an hour and fifteen minutes with the same group of learners each day and cover 5th and 6th grade items. This is a great option for homeschooling families! In this semester long course, we will learn about different aspects of ELA, Science, Geography, Writing, and World Language curriculums. We will have a discussion based on the daily topic through a shared screen presentation. Students will be able to work on hands-on projects and have completed work that can be used in a learning portfolio. Unit will end with a Kahoot game and quiz. We will begin class with a homeroom type format of sharing and guided discussions. There will be a break halfway through class for any snacks, stretching, or any brain breaks. The following format will be followed for each class. 9:30-11AM EST 9:30 - 9:35 Homeroom 9:35 - 10:15AM Class 10:15 - 10:20 Brain Break 10:20 - 10:55AM Class 10:55 - 11AM Wrap up & Social Time Tuesday: States and World Geography / World Geography and World History - Learners will be provided with a worksheet to use and track information learned each week. We will learn/discuss the following topics using a nearpod link: Regional Civilizations The Age of Encounter Continent and Countries of Europe The Age of Revolutions The Modern World Continent and Countries of Australia/Oceania Wednesday: Science Class. Weeks 1 & 2: Bacteria - What is it and why is it important? Lesson and Experiment/Assignment Week 3 & 4: Plants Biology & Experiment/Assignment Weeks 5 & 6: Animal Biology & Experiment/Assignment Week 7: Review and Kahoot or Jeopardy Assessment Thursday: Introduction to Spanish. Vocabulary and Activities in class. Spelling and Vocabulary weekly - Writing Prompts every other week Mrs. Cristina will be available for any individual assistance at an agreed time with the parent and student through the classroom, as often as needed. This is an inclusive class in which students of all abilities are welcome. If a student is unable to communicate verbally they are welcome to use the chat. If your student has any other needs that require accommodations please let me know and we will work develop a way for your learner to participate in a way that they are able.

Parental Guidance
Nearpod and Kahoot are tools that are used in this class. A link will be shared in the chat on days that they will be used. There is no account needed as I will be screen sharing and providing a direct link. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions for clarification.

Source material for the curriculum is pulled from different sources and worksheets created by Mrs. V. Some of the sources used the Explore and Learn textbooks, National Geographic website, and Elements of Literature (4th Edition).
Teacher expertise and credentials
Mrs. V is a homeschooling mom with a Bachelors in Human Resource Management and Communications. I have worked with learners from Pre-Kindergarten, Elementary School, and Middle School. Language Arts for students in K- College, Elementary School Math, Elementary and Middle School Core Subjects, Spanish, and French. I have taught History and Geography with my World Language Classes for three years in various homeschool co-ops. The skills and abilities learned in working with learners of all ages will be integral in helping your student succeed.
