This course will look at World War I history on a weekly basis. Each week will cover various different military operations, developments, or battles that occurred during that week between 1914 and 1918. This class will look at significant events from both sides of the conflict. While the military operations and developments of the countries will be focused on, significant social and political events will also be mentioned. The class will run as an ongoing course, meaning that if students do not withdraw from the course, parents will be billed weekly for our meetings. Students are free to join and withdraw as they please from this course. Each week will include a PowerPoint presentation of one (or several) events in World War I history that occurred in that particular week. We will utilize educational video clips that will help students to understand the weekly content. Additionally, we will end class each week with a fun video that is from or about World War I, or an activity like Bingo, a Word Search, or an online game that pertains to the era. Students are encouraged to do their own (optional) research each week and share their findings in class. The instructor will be available digitally during the week through the Outschool classroom to consult with students who have elected to attend class in any particular week and have chosen to complete the optional research. The schedule for the first several weeks of class is as follows: January 17-January 23rd: Paris Peace Conference Begins January 24-January 30th: The Zimmerman Telegram Incident January 31-February 6th: Germany commences unrestricted submarine warfare February 7-February 13th:The Stars and Stripes Magazine Publication Begins February 14-February 20th: The League of Nations February 21-February 27th: Battle of Verdun February 28-March 6-Treaty of Brest-Litovsk March 7-March 13: Battle of Neuve Chapelle

Parental Guidance
Discussion of military battles, operations, and weaponry of World War I will be discussed in this course. Parents will be provided with the classes learning schedule in advance for preview. The instructor will not be going into detail regarding any wartime atrocities. Casualty counts for battles will be provided to students for informational purposes while discussing specific battles, like the battle of Verdun. I find that providing students with historical data helps them to learn the scope and scale of events in a way that is appropriate for their age.

I am employed at a World War II submarine museum in my local community. As a part of my job, I educate the students of all ages through presentations, exhibits, and discussion of war related content. My goal is always to provide students with accurate information that will allow them to further their understanding of war. My discussions are always backed with historically contextualized information, and I work hard to not just tell students about wartime events, but also about why these events happened.
