Please come into each lesson with as much of your chosen song learned as possible. If you have trouble learning melodies and rhythm, we can work on that! But learning these parts of the song ahead of time gives us more time to work on singing technique. After class, please be sure to practice the techniques we learned for the next class. Thank you!

Class Experience

Hello!
Thank you for checking out this course! Teaching voice lessons is one of my favorite things to do. It is my goal to encourage my students to find their own unique voice through development of healthy technique and confidence. Helping my students to become confident and skilled is something I take very seriously.

To tell you about myself, I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre and over 6 years of experience teaching voice lessons. I love working with kids, and have taught all ages. I am also an ESL teacher and have plenty of experience interacting with children online. I love being able to share what I know with others.

The benefit of private lessons is that the class will be catered towards the students needs! We will work on the style of music that the student enjoys. For example, I am experienced in teaching classical repertoire, pop, musical theater, and much more.

Class will consist of a warm-up, singing techniques, and working on a song.

Weekly Breakdown:

(NOTE: *The weekly breakdown will vary based on the student's needs and learning level. Private voice lessons are very personalized and progression is HIGHLY dependent on time spent practicing outside of lessons and the student's initial singing ability. PLEASE come in knowing the MELODY and the PRONUNCIATIONS within the song to the best of your ability (memorization of words not required). If this is not practiced beforehand, we will have to learn it during lesson time, and it can be very time consuming. This then takes time away that can be spent on technique training and building skills. If you need tips on learning the melody/words, please let me know and I would be happy to give you tips. We can always continue the same song into the next week, but it is also wonderful to spend each lesson learning new material!*)

Week 1: We will start by introducing ourselves. We will do a warm-up so that I can better understand your voice. Then, we can discuss any questions or concerns you have about singing! We will learn some new singing techniques and further discuss what your expectations are for lessons. Please have a song that you enjoy prepared, we will have time to work on that as well!
Week 2: We will do a warm-up, technique training, and introduce a new song if you are feeling ready. A new song will be discussed beforehand with the student so that they have time to prepare.
Week 3: We will do a warm-up, introduce new singing techniques catered towards the student, and introduce a new song if the student is ready.
Week 4: We will do a warm-up, continue introducing new techniques , and introduce a new song if the student is ready.
Week 5: We begin with a warm-up, technique building, and add new material if you wish! You also have the option to review all material that we have learned in our weeks together. :D

I am so excited to work with you and help you on your way to developing your best singing voice. I look forward to our class together!

***REFUND POLICY: My classes follow the 'Limited' refund policy model - Full refund until a week in advance, or within 24 hours of purchase (until class starts).

LATE/MISSED CLASS POLICY: If the student is 30 minutes late to a lesson, the zoom call will be ended. The class will be considered missed and there is no refund or makeup. A quality lesson following the class description cannot be properly delivered if the student is this late, and therefore the meeting will be ended. In the event of an emergency cancellation, a makeup lesson will be considered upon availability but is not guaranteed. Lastly, no refunds will be issued by the teacher for technical issues on the student's end. Once sign-up is completed the schedule class times cannot be rescheduled unless I am aware of the conflict 2 weeks in advance and have availability in my schedule to adjust the time.

COMMUNICATION: I try to be as responsive as possible to any messages or classroom comments and my goal is to respond within one business day at the latest. I am in EST., so time differences may cause response to come later than expected if you are in a different time zone. My response time may be longer on weekends and religious holidays.

Supply List
1.) Please have a 3-ring binder and pencil.
2.) As we begin new songs, I will be providing a sheet of lyrics (the words to the song) and a link to purchase sheet music. This is so we can build a songbook just for you! I highly recommend purchasing the sheet music (as it contains the musical notes, rhythms, and instrumental components of a song.) If you do not know what sheet music looks like, let me know and I will post some images! Please print this out as I post it so that we can have lyrics/music for each lesson.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Lauren Layfield and thank you for your interest in my classes! I have been teaching Voice and Acting Lessons to students for over 10 years, and am so happy to be bringing what I know to Outschool.

I am happy to be offering weekly singing lessons as well as a broadway singing group class. I believe that every performer deserves to feel confident and prepared, and I am here to help give you the tools you need to put your best foot forward. In my classes, we work on healthy singing techniques, confidence, performance techniques, and much more! I teach a range of genres such as pop, rock, musical theatre, and classical voice.

I've been performing since the age of 6, and graduated from SUNY Fredonia with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre and a minor in Dance Studio Administration, as well as from Fordham University with a Masters in Business. I have a knowledge of music theory, dance, piano, and singing.

My goal is to deliver to my students a personalized, supportive, and educational session in which they leave class feeling more confident and equipped with the information they need to progress. I am grateful to have taught over 2,000 individual sessions with Outschool, and have learned so much about how to create, customize, and teach online singing lessons.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have. I look forward to teaching you soon!
