Class experience
Lunar New Year is a popular celebration in many countries in Asia. It is a time to be with family, eat delicious food and wear traditional clothing. In this class we will draw our Travel Girl character in the traditional clothing of five countries that celebrate this holiday. The five Asian countries are China, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia. I have visited all of these countries and enjoyed learning about the rich culture of each one. Students will enhance their knowledge of five Asian countries by reviewing basic facts about the countries; special attention will be given to the traditional clothing, as students will draw the Travel Girl character in traditional clothing of each country. Also, students will improve their drawing ability by using common shapes and lines to create a character.
As an ESL teacher of Chinese students for 4.5 years, I have regularly taught lessons about Chinese holidays, especially Chinese New Year (Lunar New Year), and spoken to students about their traditions and habits for the holidays. In addition, I have a BA in Sociology and enjoy learning about different society. I have traveled to more than 30 countries, including China in 2019, and lived in South Korea for two year.
Homework Offered
1.) Color the picture drawn in class and upload to our classroom site. 2.) Put the finished drawing on card stock paper to make a card. 2.) Complete the "Travel Girl's Diary" worksheet by writing about "a day in the life" of Travel Girl.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
