Class experience

US Grade 8 - 11
On a basic level, students would be able to put each of these philosophers at their appropriate place and location on the historical timeline and be able to give a brief overview of what each philosopher taught.
We live in a big and fascinating world and one of my goals with my classes is to help kids develop an interest and appreciation for the world around them and different cultures. My classes draw from my own experiences as a world traveler. I've visited and lived abroad in twenty countries. I'm a lifelong student of history and I'm also the former deputy director of the historic home of President Ronald Reagan and I am a 2002 graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University with a bachelor of science degree in political science and history. I also have several years of experience in working with students as a teacher and mentor and look forward to having the opportunity to invest in the life of your learner. For this particular class on philosophy, these are ideas I have been studying all my life. In high school I was a member of a "Dead Poet's Society" and in college I took enough philosophy classes to end up just one class short of a minor in philosophy.

We are discussing big ideas in this class! Zoroaster was the founder of a major religion. Confucius got involved in politics but left the political world when a leader he served received a performance by exotic dancers. Nietzsche declared that God is dead. As a teacher, I don't advocate any of these ideas I just want to introduce ideas and get students wrestling with them. Also please note that we use a third party program a a part of this class called Nearpod, which is approved by Outschool. Please have students login to Nearpod each week before coming to class.
