In this class we are going to learn about 5 epic battles that changed the course of history. If any of these battles end differently than they did, the whole course of world history is different. We’re going to learn about the build up -- the different sides and the origins of the dispute and why these sides were at war -- and we’ll talk about how the world would look differently today if they other side had won. These are epic stories with great leaders, larger than life characters, and...
Students will have a basic understanding of these five moments in world history. These five battles span 500+ years of world history so understanding the order in which the events unfolded also serve as a basic timeline of the unfolding of world history. But please note, this is a 55 minute class. Students won't be experts, but they will know something. I also offer this class as on multi-day course that meets 5 separate times. It's a good idea to take this class as a one time-class to get an overview, then, if you are interested in learning more, tame the multi-day class that meets 5 times.
We live in a big and fascinating world and one of my goals with my classes is to help kids develop an interest and appreciation for the world around them and different cultures. My classes draw from my own experiences as a world traveler. I've visited and lived abroad in seventeen countries. I'm a lifelong student of history and I'm also the former deputy director of the historic home of President Ronald Reagan. In 2010 was a candidate for United States Congress and I am a 2002 graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University with a bachelor of science degree in history and political science. I also have several years of experience in working with students as a teacher and mentor and look forward to having the opportunity to invest in the life of your learner.
There is no homework required. However, I do provide worksheets that students can use to fill in during class. These are great for work samples for students who have required work samples for charter schools. I also provide additional notes after class for students to go deeper on their own.
I provide a worksheet before class that students can fill in as we go along. I also provide additional notes after class with more information and links to related articles and videos.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Parents looking for materials to submit as work assignments are always happy with the materials I provide.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
This is a one-time class. If students find this class interesting and would like to learn more about this topic, I also offer a multi-day class that meets 5 times that goes into more depth on these battles.
