4th/5th Grade Reading Skills- Nonfiction Text Structure

Does your child struggle to understand the Text Structure of a story is? Then this class is for you! An interactive presentation, cool visual aides, interesting stories, and fun hand motions teach your learner what each structure is and how to tell the TS of a story!

In this "Snippet Series" mini-course, our class will meet for 3 weeks, twice a week to engage in Reading instruction on Text Structure!  Students can often get confused as to how to find Text Structure or what type of Text Structure a passage has, but I will teach them strategies and clues in a fun and interactive way that will help them understand this important skill.

In each class, we will utilize an interactive presentation that shares notes, hand motions/chants, examples, and a graphic organizer to learn about each Text Structure. I will teach this information, then we will work together as a group to read 2 passages, find the details that prove the Text Structure,  and complete a graphic organizer. 

The schedule for each class is as follows: 
Week 1 Day 1- Overview of all Text Structures/Description Text Structure 
Week 1 Day 2- Compare and Contrast
Week 2 Day 1- Sequential/ Chronological
Week 2 Day 2- Cause and Effect 
Week 3 Day 1- Problem Solution
Week 3 Day 2- Review/ Text Structure Examples

This class is perfect for:
* 3rd grade students who are advanced (beyond 3rd grade reading) and ready for the challenge of 4th grade Text Structure
* 4th or 5th grade students who have not yet learned Text Structure
* homeschooling families not comfortable with teaching Text Structure
* students who have already learned Text Structure but would like to review before a big test or before beginning the next grade
* students who have learned Text Structure, but are still struggling with the concept and need extra support.
