Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
In this class, we will spend the half of our time introducing the history of the US flag. Why do we have a flag, who made it, when was it made, and how old is the US flag? Then, we look at the symbolism of the colors used: red, white, and blue and sing a song about our flag. Then, we will look at the design of the US flag: why are there stars and stripes? Last, we will share briefly about flag etiquette and how we respect our flag. Our information portion of our class will be supported through visual slides, graphics, labels, and songs.

We will finish the class by creating our own flag and reviewing the symbolism we just learned. Students will have fun making their own flag to fly during the Fourth of July holiday and celebration. They will be able to hang it up after class and cherish its meaning. I will be teaching them step by step how to paint their flag, so they can see it being completed as well. Our craft will support fine motor development as well. Students should be able to do this on their own. No experience is necessary. I hope students have a love for art and hands-on crafts. Also our flag when they are done!

*Please be sure to review the materials section so the your student is prepared to have a fun and meaningful experience!

I’m a compassionate and charismatic teacher who loves to teach! I have taught Kindergarten through 5th grade students for the last 10 years. In that time, I have been a general education teacher in the public schools setting for 8 years and specialized as a reading coach to my school for an additional two years. I have been teaching online since February 2020. I’m certified to teach Elementary education from Kindergarten to 6th grade. I absolutely love teaching and hands on learning! I have taught this lesson in the public school setting with many students in Kindergarten and 1st grade. I’m looking forward to sharing this fun class with your wonderful student!
