Instruction will be given in a relaxed, fun and upbeat manner once a week. Students will be rewarded often with verbal cues. The goal of this class is to make math an enjoyable experience for each student. Students should leave class feeling confident and excited to learn more. An assortment of learning techniques will be used to meet the needs of each learner.

This class is also designed to help with flexible and changing schedules. It is ongoing and you can cancel at anytime. As long as your child has at least a 3rd grade background knowledge of math, they should be just fine no matter when they join! Questions from previous classes are always welcomed as well.

Before each class, students will need to watch a short instructional video and complete an assignment that will review the concept(s) that the following class will cover. Class will typically begin with a fun warm up activity followed by the teacher going over the assignment and answering any questions the students may have. Once we have gone over the assignment, it's game time! Some of the games that we will play are, but not limited to:
-Math Jeopardy
-Kahoot
-Gimkit
-Blooket

For many of these games it may be necessary to have a second device available or the ability to have a split screen.

Concepts that will be taught:

Week of June 17th: Place Value and Rounding of Multi-Digit Whole Numbers
Week of June 24th: Multi-Digit Whole Number Addition and Subtraction
Week of July 1st: Multi-Digit Whole Number Multiplication
Week of July 8th: Multi-Digit Whole Number Division
Week of July 15th: Fractions
Week of July 22th: Decimal Fractions
Week of July 29st: Geometry
Week of August 5th: Unit Conversion and Measurements
Week of August 12th: Full 4th grade curriculum
Week of August 19th: Full 4th grade curriculum
Week of August 26th: Order of Operations, Intro to 5th grade

Students should have a basic understanding of 4th grade math concepts before enrolling and will be asked to keep their video turned on unless otherwise instructed by the parents that it's ok to have it off.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Utah Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I currently hold a Level 2 Professional Teaching License for the state of Utah. I teach a variety of classes that are appropriate for elementary through middle school students. My favorite classes to teach are related to math and science. I have two years of outdoor/environmental education in the field and have taught in the classroom for over 17 years. I have taught many age groups, ranging from 2nd grade all the way to 9th grade (7 years as an elementary teacher, teaching all subjects as well as 8 years teaching middle school math and science). My goal as an educator is to create engaging, hands-on lessons that are full of discovery and discussion. Content is important, but the ability to problem solve and think for ourselves is also an important component of my lessons. I have lived and taught in four different countries: the U.S., Ecuador, Venezuela and Mexico. I obviously love to travel and feel the best way to learn is through new experiences. I also enjoy playing the guitar, surfing, snowboarding, backpacking in the wilderness and spending time with close friends.
