The purpose of this class is to give students a strong foundation in language arts studies. Students will exceed state standards as they work through a comprehensive grammar and writing program.
I have a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from Wright State University. My degree qualifies me to teach language arts. My professional teaching experience includes teaching students from ages three to fifteen in a variety of different settings: public school, home school, a classical home school group, and virtually from my home classroom. I have three years prior experience teaching through an intensive 4th-6th grade grammar and writing program using a classical group curriculum. Finally, I currently give direct English grammar instruction to Chinese students from ages three to fifteen through teaching English online.
Each lesson contains a homework assignment. Students will be assigned 4-5 lessons worth of homework at the end of class. Students should grade their own work when answer sheets are provided. If students write directly in their consumable workbooks, they will be able to complete their work faster. Students will have writing assignments after every ten lessons which should take about 15-20 minutes outside of class. After every five to ten lessons, students will have a test, which should take about ten minutes.
School supplies: three-ring binder(for writing assignments) if using separate paper, loose leaf paper, highlighter, pencils, pens, a composition notebook for optional journal writing. Systematically, we will work through the first half of the 4th grade grammar and writing program. Learners will be required to purchase the books so that they can complete the assignments (see link below). Bundle (student textbook, student workbook, & Teacher guide): https://www.rainbowresource.com/product/018082/Grammar-%2526-Writing-4-Complete-H-S-Kit.html PLEASE PURCHASE THE TEACHER GUIDE, so that you have easy access to paper tests and answer keys. Please do not order through your charter school unless they can get orders processed quickly. I recommend purchasing books 2-3 weeks before class starts.
***I do not give a grade for this course.*** Writing- Students are invited to submit writing assignments to the teacher for feedback. The app “tiny scanner” is a free phone app that quickly creates PDF’s for submission. Grammar- Do not turn in the review sets or practice sets; These will not be graded . The answer key is in the teacher guide for students or guardians to check their own work. Grammar assignments are assessed using Kahoot tests and paper tests.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Please see link for curriculum: https://www.rainbowresource.com/product/051712/Grammar-%2526-Writing-4-Full-Bundle-School-Edition.html Note: Please do not order through your charter school unless they can get orders processed quickly. I recommend purchasing books 2-3 weeks before class starts. While I have been authorized to share the curriculum sampler which includes lessons 1-10 , I will not be able to provide electronic copies of the book beyond that to learners who are waiting on curriculum to arrive.
