Homework
1-2 hours per week. Students will have the option to engage in additional homework assignments that can be included in their personal portfolios. These assignments are designed to provide opportunities for further practice and exploration. It's important to note that no grades will be assigned to these optional assignments.

Class Experience:
Welcome to our comprehensive 4th Grade Homeschool Curriculum, designed to foster an enriching educational journey for your child through student-centered and project-based learning methods. This is an ongoing course immersing students in a dynamic blend of core subjects, critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. It offers an in-depth exploration of global biomes, connecting students with people, plants, animals, and ecosystems.

What Will Be Taught?
Throughout the course, students will dive into a diverse range of subjects. Our curriculum is carefully aligned with 3rd grade-level standards, ensuring a strong foundation in these core areas while nurturing a love for learning.  Students will explore global biomes in-depth, studying regions along with their inhabitants, plants, animals, and ecosystems. These topics will be taught through reading, math, science, language arts, and art all while integrating eco-literacy and mindfulness principles. Students will develop critical-thinking skills toward solving real-world problems, while gaining confidence in their identity, meaning, and purpose.

How Is the Class Structured?
Each week follows a structured format, blending interactive online lessons with hands-on projects that encourage students to apply what they've learned. Our curriculum emphasizes flexibility, allowing families to tailor the pace to their child's needs.

Teaching Style:
Our teaching approach centers on fostering a growth mindset, curiosity, and independence in a relaxed setting. Lessons incorporate a variety of engaging resources, including interactive slides, educational videos, group discussions, and creative assignments. We offer a holistic and student-centered approach to education that nurtures the whole child's mind, body, and spirit. 

Learner Interaction:
Students will actively engage with both the instructor and their peers through weekly live video sessions. These sessions combine brief lectures, collaborative activities, and open discussions. Additionally, our class provides a dedicated space for students to interact, share their project work, and offer feedback to one another. Our lessons focus on developing conceptual understanding, providing meaningful opportunities for practice, and encouraging students to apply what they have learned. By engaging in various art forms, students develop their own personal relationship with self-expression and gain a deeper appreciation for the arts.

Required Experience/Knowledge:
No specific prior experience or knowledge is required. Our curriculum is designed to accommodate diverse learning levels, enabling each child to progress at their own pace. As a parent, you will play a crucial role in guiding and supporting your child's learning journey.

Weekly Schedule:

Week 1: 9/11/23 - 9/15/23

Monday:
Topic 1: Mathematics: Introduction to Multiplication as Repeated Addition
 -Exploring how multiplication helps us quickly add groups of numbers by repeating addition
Topic 2: Grammar: Nouns and Their Role in Sentences
-Discovering the important words that name people, places, things, and animals and how they make sentences work

Wednesday:
Topic 1: Geography: Introduction to Geography
-Introduction to geography, maps, and globes.
Topic 2: Writing: Crafting Meaningful Sentences
 -Learning how to put words together to create clear and interesting sentences

Friday:
Art & Science: Introduction to Ecosystems and Their Components
-Begin by introducing the concept of ecosystems, emphasizing that ecosystems include living and non-living things.

Week 2: 9/18/23 - 9/22/23

Monday:
Mathematics: Times Tables Exploration and Strategies
-Diving into multiplication tables and smart ways to learn and use them
Grammar: Adjectives and Their Impact on Sentences
-Understanding how describing words make sentences more colorful and interesting.

Wednesday:
Geography: Our World Continents
-Introduction to the seven continents. Learn about each continent's name, location, and some basic facts about them.
Writing: Creative Storytelling Techniques
-Unleashing your imagination to tell captivating and unique stories.

Friday:
Art & Science: Matter and Its States
-Exploring the different forms and properties of substances in our world

Week 3: 9/25/23 - 9/29/23

Monday:
Mathematics: Solving Word Problems using Multiplication and Division
-Learning how to use math operations to solve real-life story problems.
Grammar: Punctuation and Proper Capitalization
-Mastering the art of using periods, commas, and capital letters to make writing clear and polished.

Wednesday:
Geography: Exploring North America
-Learn about its countries, major cities, and geographical features.
Writing: Developing Strong Paragraphs
-Building the foundation for effective writing by organizing thoughts into clear and coherent paragraphs.

Friday:
Art & Science: Exploring Light and Shadow
Investigating how light creates fascinating patterns and effects with shadows.

Week 4: 10/2/23 - 10/6/23

Monday:
Mathematics: Review and Recap of Multiplication and Division Concepts
Grammar: Review and Application of Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives, and Adverbs

Wednesday:
Geography: Discovering South America
-Explore South America, its countries, major landmarks, and the Amazon Rainforest.
Writing: Crafting Compelling Conclusions
-Mastering the art of wrapping up your writing with strong and memorable endings.

Friday:
Art & Science: Creating Art Inspired by Scientific Concepts
-Using your creativity to make beautiful art while exploring and understanding scientific ideas.
