US Grade 4
In this flexible schedule course, we will review common subjects learned in 4th grade! We will practice a different 4th grade topic each week such as reducing fractions, writing a structured paragraph, two-digit by two-digit multiplication, parts of speech lines, rays, and polygons, measuring area and perimeter of a quadrilateral, synonyms, antonyms and homophones, and decimals. Each learner should bring paper and writing utensil before watching each lesson. This class is great as a supplement to virtual schooling or public schooling as well as homeschooling, and is a great fit for learners who will be starting 4th grade in the fall, who are currently in 4th grade, or any student who would like to review 4th grade concepts. Each week I will post a video explaining the concepts below, then I will post discussion questions, challenge activities, or ask students to share examples of their work weekly in the classroom. Here is a rough outline of each class: Week 1: Video teaching reducing fractions. We will have a self introduction discussion in the classroom, and I will post an interactive reducing fractions game to the classroom where students hone their skills reducing fractions. Week 2: Video teaching how to write a structured paragraph with a topic sentence, supporting details and a closing sentence. Students will post a picture of their writing to the classroom, and we will all discuss and comment on our writing. Week 3: Video teaching two-digit by two-digit multiplication. I will post a Monster multiplication game where students can choose one our more multiplication facts to practice, and we will discuss which strategies are the most helpful! Week 4: Video teaching the parts of speech. Students will post photos of their work to the classroom, and students and will discuss what we liked about this week's lesson. I will also post a Kahoot game for students to review key terms in the parts of speech. Week 5: Video teaching lines, rays, and polygons. I will post an interactive quiz game for the students to practice what they learned and compete against each other with a bit of friendly competition, and we will discuss which strategies are the most helpful. Week 6: Video teaching how to measure area and perimeter of a quadrilateral. I will post a Time to Climb quiz game about finding area and perimeter. Time to Climb is Nearpod's “game-like” learning activity that increases engagement with friendly classroom competition while assessing students knowledge. Week 7: Video teaching about synonyms, antonyms and homophones. Students will practice with a worksheet after the lesson, and post to the classroom. We will also play a Time to climb quiz game. Week 8: Video teaching students to read and write decimals. I will also post a decimal game which gives students the opportunity to practice reading and writing decimals. A variety of question formats are presented to students in this educational, fun math game.
