Description

Class Experience

The purpose of this class is to give students a strong foundation in language arts studies. Students will exceed state standards as they work through a comprehensive grammar and writing program.
I have a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from Wright State University. My degree qualifies me to teach language arts. My professional teaching experience includes teaching students from ages 3-15 in a variety of different settings: public school, home school, a classical home school group, and virtually from my home classroom.

I have 3 years prior experience teaching through an intensive 4th-6th grade English grammar and writing program using a classical group curriculum. In addition, I gave direct English grammar instruction to Chinese students from ages 3-15 through teaching English online for 2 years. Finally, I am in my second year teaching English grammar with Outschool.
Each lesson contains a homework assignment. Students will be assigned four to five lessons worth of homework at the end of class. Students should grade their own work when answer sheets are provided. If students write directly in their consumable workbooks, they will be able to complete their work faster.

Students will have weekly writing assignments. Also, there are five Kahoot tests which will be assigned through out the semester.
School supplies: writing journal or small notebook, three-ring binder(for daily journals and writing assignments), loose leaf paper, highlighter, pencils, pens.

Systematically, we will work through the first half of the 4th grade grammar and writing program. Learners will be required to purchase the books so that they can complete the assignments (see link below).

PLEASE PURCHASE THE TEACHER GUIDE, so that you have easy access to paper tests and answer keys.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
***I do not give a grade for this course.***
Writing- Students are invited to submit writing assignments to the teacher for feedback. The app “tiny scanner” is a free phone app that quickly creates PDF’s for submission.
Grammar- Do not turn in the review sets or practice sets; These will not be graded . The answer key is in the teacher guide for students or guardians to check their own work. Grammar assignments are assessed using Kahoot tests and paper tests.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
This class uses Kahoot and Nearpod. Both are pre-approved third-party tools by Outschool. Once students receive a link for the Nearpod or Kahoot activity, they only need to add a username. No other personal information is required.
