Class experience

US Grade 3 - 5
Students will work on reading comprehension skills as well as making predictions, inferences, and connections.
Students will interact verbally and through written response with the text.
Students will practice oral skills to communicate with other learners in the class.
I believe in sharing the joy of reading and love to help cultivate that in young readers. Reading is the foundation for all learning and I use my experience as a licensed PK -6 teacher, with a Master's in Reading, to develop reading skills during our book club. I have worked both in the classroom and the library setting and reading is truly a passion of mine.

My work as an elementary school librarian allows me to draw on a variety of literacy activities to help make a positive reading experience. Your child will be drawn into this poignant and unforgettable story from Katherine Applegate. I definitely have an animated and enthusiastic reading style to make the story engaging, upbeat, and a lot of fun
Homework Offered
After each meeting, your child will be responsible for reading approximately 65- 90 pages during the course of the week to be prepared for the next meeting. Aside from the reading, there will be no additional assignments. Teacher will provide a weekly challenge activity as an optional activity for those parents looking to supplement during the days we do not meet.
Assessments Offered
Grades Offered
- a copy of Crenshaw, paper or digital copy

- pencil and paper

Teacher will provide any additional handouts or papers needed for the class. Papers may include a response sheet, questions, or any other activity that will help with our book club.
Please note: Any paper needed for a meeting will be sent no later than 24 hours before the start of the meeting. If you have access to a printer, please print for your child and bring to class. If you do not have access to a printer, your child can still respond using plain paper.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
As a parent, teacher, and librarian, I always recommend parents preview any book their child is going to read. This book does contain elements of poverty and homeless, which can be a sensitive and/or difficult topic for some. Please check to ensure the book is appropriate for your child.
