This is an ongoing class for for 4th-5th grade students. This class is suitable for students in 4th-5th grade as well as for younger students who are looking for a challenge and older students who need extra practice. 

 In this class, students will read a mixture of fiction and nonfiction texts as they practice reading comprehension, test taking skills, and build their vocabulary. 

Class Structure:
📚 Introductions and greetings
📚 Brief overview of the passage
📚 Vocabulary preview and brief discussion
📚 The teacher will go over the reading comprehension strategy. Each class will use a specific reading strategy that students will apply to the reading.
📚 The teacher will model using the reading strategy for a paragraph
📚 Students will read sections of the text. We will stop after each section to briefly discuss
📚 Students and teacher will engage in a discussion about the text. Students will be challenged to think critically and analyze the text deeply using evidence as support.
📚 Students will answer multiple choice questions independently and privately. There will be a discussion about each question to clarify any misunderstandings
📚 We will play a review game using multiple choice questions and vocabulary from our discussion (time permitting). This will be either Kahoot, Blooket, or Gimkit and totally optional for students

Week of October 30th: Danger at Scituate Lighthouse (fiction)
Week of November 6th: American Revolution (nonfiction - historical)
Week of November 13th: Midnight and the Night Watchman (fiction)
Week of November 20th: Vampire of the Deep (nonfiction)
Week of November 27th: Stop the Hungry Giant Fish (fiction - folktale)
