Assignments
Students are given as assignment to complete after the first class of the week. This allows the students to practice the same math concept from our lesson of the week. We will check for understanding on the second day of class for the week.
Grading
To receive feedback on the assignment, students are encouraged to complete the assignment that is provided after our first lesson each week and BEFORE our second class day of the week. I will use their answers from that assignment during the day two lesson, to provide feedback on their understanding of the concept for the week. This feedback will be provided only during class time, so it is important that students complete the assignment before the second day of class that week.

I am so excited to offer this engaging class. I will utilize an engaging picture that supports various real-world math problems. This will assure that students are learning the math skills needed, while at the same time they are engaged visually as we use a realistic purpose for math. The purpose is to learn and use math skills in a real and engaging way. We might budget our money to buy something in the photo. Or use multidigit multiplication to buy items in bulk. Using long division to find the better deal on a sale. Percentages and decimals will be used to find tips, discounts, and money value. Fractions are often used in recipes and construction for real-world situations. Math skills in our class may include long division, equivalent fractions, multidigit multiplication, percentages and decimals just to name a few. See the other skills below.

In my seventeen years of teaching elementary math, I am very familiar with the priority math standards of fourth and fifth grade, as well as the progression needed to enter the grades to follow. I have participated in many hours of professional development for many different research-based math strategies which makes me prepared to help students where they are academically with the strategy they are learning.

What sets this class apart from other math classes is my experience, as well as my ongoing feedback during class. An added bonus is that students are given as assignment to complete that allows the students to practice the same math concept from our lesson of the week. We will check for understanding on the second day of class for the week. See the class agenda below.

                                             CLASS AGENDA
      DAY 1:
-Teachers models the strategy of the lesson with a sample problem.
-Teacher presents another problem with students’ coaching
(they coach me to solve the problem).
-Students choose to try another task WITH me OR independently and we share out at the end.
-A practice page is assigned for students to complete between classes as a homework page.

      DAY 2:
-We will check the homework page assigned from Day 1.
-We will practice, review, and challenge as needed based on students' progression.

                                      HOW the class is MANAGED:
After the lesson, students will choose either to work alone on a task or with the teacher to complete each task and we will share our results. I will ask MANY questions to guide students to the correct strategies to solve the task. Students will need a whiteboard to show your work so I can better understand your math thinking. They can also use the chat that will be set up to go only to me, rather than to the other students.
