4th & 5th Grade Math: All About Fractions!

In this 8 week course, learners will develop a deep understanding of fractions. This class is a great review of fractions for learners who have already learned the content, need more support with the topics, or want a head start on fraction foundational skills.  As a previous 4th grade teacher, I am very familiar with this material and how to properly plan and teach it. Learners will be taught by use of manipulatives, visuals, engaging games/activities, and independent practice. I will provide the support and differentiation that each learner needs to be successful! Typically, class will begin by completing a warm up or review of material from the previous week. Next, new content will be introduced. I will model the new content for the learners. Learners will then practice with me. Lastly, learners will independently solve problems, so I can informally access their understanding of the material. Learners will be given the opportunity in each class to discuss problems with each other and work together. Learners will also complete an interactive quiz via Kahoot or Nearpod at the end of each class. 

Skills needed for class:
Fluent understanding of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. 

This course will be structured as follows:
Week 1: Fraction Terminology, Foundational Skills, and Models
Week 2: Equivalent Fractions & Simplifying Fractions
Week 3: Improper Fractions & Mixed Numbers
Week 4: Operations with Fractions: Adding & Subtracting Fractions with Like Denominators
Week 5: Operations with Fractions: Adding & Subtracting Fractions with Unlike Denominators
Week 6: Operations with Fractions: Multiplying Fractions
Week 7: Operations with Fractions: Dividing Fractions
Week 8: Review & Assess
