Through immersion into Russian culture, stories, poems, jokes and other relevant material, pupils will gain more confidence in all 4 skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening). In my lessons, I use video and audio material, games and slides, and expect pupils to participate, asking questions and interacting with each other and myself. In week 4, there will be a cooking session to make the famous Russian salad and use Russian words (mix, add, chop etc). The following is the brief structure of the grammar and topics we will be learning. They will be integrated into fun material to minimize the dry grammar approach as much as possible. Week 1 Lesson 1: A short assessment to see what we know/remember. Practicing reading and speaking. Lesson 2: Review of numbers 1-20 and learning up to 100. Week 2 Lesson 1: Weather, seasons and months Lesson 2: Hobbies. Short quiz. Week 3 Lesson 1: House and places in town Lesson 2: Food Week 4 Lesson 1: Cooking the Russian salad, using Russian words! Lesson 2: Test and review Within the topics we will work on pronunciation and cover the following grammar topics: - Noun gender and agreement - Plurals - Pronouns - Adjectives - Present tense - Some cases of past and future tense (students will be able to recognize it) Students are expected to create flashcards to help them with learning the words. Support will be provided when required. Stretch and challenge tasks will be given for gifted children. Communication with parents is highly appreciated, so we can determine a better individual approach, which is possible in a small class like mine. I am comfortable teaching SEN pupils, but appreciate relevant information from parents.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to read more complex Russian phrases and how to express themselves in more elaborate phrases. They will gain an understanding of verbs and tenses and more complex grammar rules and exceptions. They will become confident in writing Cyrillic letters and words. Pupils are also expected to build on their vocabulary and actively participate in group discussions and work.
