Beginner Level
~ No prior knowledge of Russian required ~ This is an immersive class, in which I try to use as much authentic material as possible to cover the basics of the pronunciation, spelling and easy vocabulary. However, I do not pressure my pupils, so the lessons take place in a fun manner with jokes, stories and lots of interaction! In my lessons, I use video and audio material, games and slides, and lots of my own terrible drawings! I expect pupils to participate as much as they can, asking questions, finding patterns in a language, and interacting with each other and myself. I try to make sure no one is scared of making mistakes. In week 4, there will be a group breakout session for pupils to work in small groups on a cultural topic.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to read simple Russian phrases, will gain an understanding of word genders, basic verbs and ways to ask and answer questions. Pupils are also expected to build on their vocabulary and understand simple phrases upon hearing them.

I was born in Moscow, Russia and come from a family of teachers of Russian language and literature. We speak Russian at home and I have taught Russian to pupils of ages 4-16, and have been a Russian-English-Russian translator. I try to always build on the rich cultural capital by using elaborate vocabulary, referencing literature and history, discussing the Russian heritage etc. For the younger pupils, I love using my goofy drawings in class as a learning prompt.
