Class Experience
Would you like to broaden your child’s vocabulary? Would you like to boost your learner's knowledge of grammar? Would you like to help your learner to speak and write well? If yes then Latin is for you. In this camp I build your child's knowledge and confidence. From the very first lesson, your child is introduced to new words and your child has opportunities to practise correct pronunciation. Together your child and I translate, read and write sentences in Latin. By the end of this...
Your child will learn the following features of Latin grammar: > how to form the present tense > the nominative and accusative cases
I am passionate about the role of Latin in developing a child's intellect. Studying Latin builds your child's vocabulary: teaching them words like spectare (to gaze) from which we get the noun spectacles and spectator as well as the verb to spectate. Latin also 'sensitises' your child's mind, making them aware of how sentences are constructed and how to use verb tenses and prepositions correctly. This helps your child to understand complex texts and to write well. Before joining Outschool, I was the headmistress of a primary school (elementary school principal) and I have been a fully qualified classroom teacher for twenty years. I have a postgraduate qualification in education leadership and a bachelor’s degree in primary education. I originally trained in the United States but I qualified in the United Kingdom and I work in London. I have studied Latin for over five years and my teaching experience means that I understand how to explain concepts in English and Latin grammar simply and structure lessons well. I have worked with wide range of learners including gifted children; children with special educational needs or disabilities as well as children with a wide range of personalities and levels of motivation. If you have any questions or worries about your learner - please send me a message as I am happy to listen, discuss or advise.
Pupils need to learn vocabulary by heart. Daily practice of approximately ten minutes is expected.
1 file available upon enrollmentLined paper or exercise book Pencils or a pen with black or blue ink (for writing) A pen with green ink (for corrections) A highlighter A ruler This class is taught in focus mode and so learners will only be able to see me teaching. Learners will not be able to see each other. Please keep your video on during lessons as it is difficult to properly monitor your work if I can not see you. Please join the lesson from a quiet place so that the background noise in your home does not make it difficult to hear you when you speak (or you can wear headphones/a headset as these reduce the background noise).
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
