Class Experience

Following our friend Amari, who just got a paper route, we’ll learn about key financial literacy topics such as the value of money, saving and investing, and money management.

Topics covered:
*Value of money/what things cost, needs & wants, getting a job/starting a business (earning money)
*What is a budget? Decision-making and goal planning, keeping track of expenses
*Recognizing fraud and other financial issues

Earning income is one of the best ways for children to learn the joys of...

Learners will be guided through real-life examples of earning money for the first time and planning to use it wisely.

As a Canadian CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® Professional, "Mrs. Alyx" (Alexandra (Alyx) Valdal) is passionate about financial literacy for the next generation! Teaching kids about money is so important for establishing good habits and understanding that money is just a tool to be used.

Mrs. Alyx has lived and taught different subjects in Canada, England, and Japan. She has taught learners from age 2 to 72 from preschool to college courses and loves engaging with excited students. In her Outschool classes, Mrs. Alyx helps learners reflect on their own money values through talking about needs and wants and how money can work in our lives, now and in the future.

Nearpod

2 hours 15 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.

This class uses screenshare and optional learner self-directed Nearpod use (Nearpod.com). Youtube videos will be shared - in class and as an additional resource via the Outschool classroom. No accounts are required, for either resource.
