Welcome to my 4 Day Camp on Minerals, Precious Metals and Gems. We will cover all the essentials for understanding how minerals are defined, what the main types of gemstones are and how to find and mine precious metals. This is not a basics class, although no previous experience is necessary, younger kids may find it challenging unless they are already keen on the subject. Classes will be in a lecture style using multi-media PowerPoint slides with opportunities for questions. We will cover the following topics: 1) What are minerals, gems and precious metals? 2) How to identify minerals. 3) The main mineral groups and famous gems. 4) Unusual minerals and mining. After the classes the student will have a good understanding of minerals, gems and precious metals as part of the subject of Geology and Earth Science.
