4 Day Camp: GEOLOGY P1 - Earth Structure, Pangea, Plate Tectonics, Earthquakes
4 consecutive days of classes on the Earth's Structure & how it formed, including the makaing of supercontinents like Pangea by plate tectonics. Explore the rock cycle from start to finish; from before the Earth formed to after it's gone!

Welcome to "Earth Sciences: Geology 4 day Camp PART 1", which focuses on the most dramatic physical forces in Earth Sciences which created the Earth, with the aim of making learning fun and exhilarating. I think making learning enjoyable and bringing science to life is the best way to get kids engaged and learning without realising it. Please let me know if there is a time and day that suits you best and I can schedule this series for you in a few weeks time hopefully. This course focuses on some of the most exciting Geological and Geophysical processes that formed the Earth and still move the continents today: building mountains, setting off earthquakes and feeding volcanic eruptions. We also look at where the material that makes the Earth came from and what will happen far into the future. This is not a complete Earth Science curriculum but covers many of the key aspects of the Geology part of many courses taught in schools. I also do a full 8 class weekly course and all classes are also available individually with discounts (see my Class Listings for details). No previous experience necessary and Part 1 & Part 2 can be taken in any order. ▬▬▬▬▬▬ CLASS SCHEDULE ▬▬▬▬▬ 1) INTRODUCTION TO THE EARTH SCIENCE OF GEOLOGY & GEOPHYSICS 2) PANGEA, THE ROCK CYCLE & HOW THE EARTH FORMED OVER GEOLOGICAL TIME 3) THE STRUCTURE OF THE EARTH - SEISMOLOGY AND MAGNETISM OF THE EARTH'S CORE, MANTLE AND CRUST 4) PLATE TECTONICS, MOUNTAIN BUILDING & METAMORPHIC ROCKS ▬▬▬▬▬▬ CLASS STYLE ▬▬▬▬▬ I use PowerPoint presentations for all my classes, so I can mix text and multimedia and make the class more interesting. These classed will be run using an "intro-discussion-repeat" format. This means I will take a few minutes to introduce a topic, using images or videos wherever appropriate in order to bring the subject alive. Then we will pause to discuss what we have learnt briefly and take questions and make sure everyone is keeping up. Then we'll move on to the next exciting sub-topic and supporting material, and then pause for discussion after that one too. This means that you can enjoy the class however you like. Speak up and get involved in the discussions, or just listen and enjoy with no pressure. These subjects are cherry picked to choose the most interesting, accessible and relevant Earth Science subjects for kids, so they learn to enjoy exploring the world around them. Hopefully inspiring them to learn more about Geology, Earth Science and Science in general ▬▬▬▬▬▬ LINKED TOPICS ▬▬▬▬▬ This class can be taken on its own, but is best combined with Part 2: link to follow soon. I also do a simplified version for younger children or absolute beginners. https://outschool.com/classes/e44fcafc-1b42-425a-9a64-89aa49b03619/schedule#us6TRpenz3 Please also check out my 8 class weekly course covering Part1 and Part 2: https://outschool.com/classes/earth-science-geology-the-earth-volcanoes-tectonics-fossils-and-rock-types-wLK4yMGL#us6TRpenz3
Learning Goals
To discover and learn without realising it, because you are having fun! By the end of this course students will be able to explain where the Earth came from and how it was formed They will also be able to explain how the continents were made and the Geological history and structure of the Earth.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
This class will briefly mention what happens when our Sun explodes in 4 billion years and any life on Earth will be finished. I take time to point out that this will not affect anyone we know, but it still may cause some more sensative learners to be mildly distressed.
This class uses screen share to show PowerPoint slides with text and pictures. Some classes also show short videos. No other 3rd party tools are used.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
