Class Experience

Welcome to my 4 Day Summer Camp on "The Geology of Volcanoes"

Here we spend 4 consecutive days revealing the secrets of volcanoes. We look at the difference between intrusive and extrusive igneous rocks and study extrusive rocks like lava, ash and pumice. We look inside and underneath volcanoes to see how they work and tour the globe looking at famous volcanoes and volcanic eruptions.

Classes will be in a lecture style using multi-media PowerPoint slides with opportunities for questions. We will cover the following topics:

1) Plate Tectonics & Igneous Rocks
2) Different types of Igneous Rocks
3) Inside and below volcanoes
4) Famous volcanoes and eruptions

Please contact me if you have any further questions or need any other information.

Parental Guidance
Some classes talk about Global Warming and Climate Change causing more frequent natural disasters. It also talks about mass extinctions including the possibility of humans causing one now (including ourselves) and has some drawn images of animals dying to become fossils. It is delivered in a upbeat manner with positive solutions (eg: switching to renewable energy), but the more sensative students may find these topics distressing.
Pre-Requisites
No previous experience required but please note this is not a basic class, so younger students may find it more challenging unless they are already very keen on this subject.
