What's included
36 live meetings
30 in-class hoursHomework
1-2 hours per week. Students will spend roughly 1-1.5 hours outside of class each week. Students will complete workbook problems in and out of class to solidify understanding of concepts discussed in class. Students may also be required to view short video lessons outside of class and respond to class discussion boards.Assessment
I will informally assess all students on an ongoing basis. A test will be given at the end of each chapter. A letter grade can be provided upon request at the beginning of the quarter.Grading

US Grade 3
Welcome to the fourth quarter of third grade math! This series of 4 classes (Fall, Winter I, Winter II, & Spring) can be used as your student's sole math course for their year or as a supplement to another math class or curriculum. Students should have successfully completed the first three quarters of 3rd grade math. We will work through the Singapore Math Curriculum which is aligned with the Common Core math standards. In addition to Singapore Math, this class will utilize other activities and strategies to teach math such as number talks to improve student number sense, centers to differentiate learning, and projects which will incorporate older material with what we are currently learning. My teaching style is "I do, we do, you do" through this method, I will guide student learning to meet each student where they are at and differentiate their learning. Here is a sample schedule of our class. I will adapt this schedule to fit the needs of the learners in each section. Weeks 1 & 2 Geometry, Circles, Angles, Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Perimeter CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.G.A.1 Understand that shapes in different categories (e.g., rhombuses, rectangles, and others) may share attributes (e.g., having four sides), and that the shared attributes can define a larger category (e.g., quadrilaterals). Recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals, and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.MD.D.8 Solve real world and mathematical problems involving perimeters of polygons, including finding the perimeter given the side lengths, finding an unknown side length, and exhibiting rectangles with the same perimeter and different areas or with the same area and different perimeters. Weeks 3 & 4 Area & Perimeter CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.G.A.2 Partition shapes into parts with equal areas. Express the area of each part as a unit fraction of the whole. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.MD.C.5 Recognize area as an attribute of plane figures and understand concepts of area measurement. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.MD.C.5.A A square with side length 1 unit, called "a unit square," is said to have "one square unit" of area, and can be used to measure area. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.MD.C.5.B A plane figure which can be covered without gaps or overlaps by n unit squares is said to have an area of n square units. CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.MD.C.7 Relate area to the operations of multiplication and addition. Weeks 5 & 6 Calculating Time CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.MD.A.1 Tell and write time to the nearest minute and measure time intervals in minutes. Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes, e.g., by representing the problem on a number line diagram. Weeks 7 & 8 Money & Basic Financial Concepts CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.MD.C.8 Solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using $ and ¢ symbols appropriately. Week 9 Year End Review!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello,
My name is Amy Sneath and I am the creator of Moxie Learning. Our company of teachers aim to provide a world class education without the limits of physical location. We form true classroom communities that rival those of traditional school. Friendships and true connection alongside academic excellence are regular occurrences at Moxie Learning.
When I was in school, I fell victim to math phobia and believed I was "bad" at math. Now I pride myself on meeting students where they are at and building their confidence to see they can learn any concept. I have experience in traditional 3rd and 4th grade classrooms teaching math and have seen first hand the difference in student achievement when they build confidence in themselves. This creates a life long love of learning which is even more valuable than the specific skills they will learn in my classroom.
Our team of teachers have several years of online educational experience in various grade levels and subjects. Both of our teachers graduated college with honors and are life long learners themselves. We are excited to share our love of learning with your children!
