US Grade 3 - 5
Intermediate Level
State standards build on each other every year. Coming in to 3rd grade, students are expected to have a firm understanding of number sense, algebraic reasoning, measurement, and geometry according to their second grade standards. In 3rd grade we build on those same standards creating room for gaps to begin forming in students reasoning and computation ability. Addressing misconceptions about a math standard, skill, or concept early is important to the success of a student in this subject. In this class we will cover one remedial standard a week, spending 2 class periods on each standard. Week 1: Place Value up to 10,000 Week 2: Rounding to the nearest 10 and 100 Week 3: Adding multi digit numbers Week 4: Subtracting multi digit numbers with regrouping Week 5: Strategies for solving multiplication Week 6: Using multiplication facts to solve for division Week 7: Finding area and perimeter I will teach using an “I do, We do, You do” approach. I will be present the entire hour and will be available for help during the “You do” portion of class. This is a time for productive struggle and allows me to correct any misconceptions and it allows students a chance to work independently knowing I’m just a mic away!
