3rd Grade Reading Comprehension Club! (Ongoing)
We'll meet once a week to read a passage aloud, then we'll use critical thinking skills to answer third grade reading comprehension questions in a trivia format. Whoever has the most points by the end of class will be that day's champion!

Description
Class Experience
Learners will improve their reading comprehension skills and reading aloud skills by reading a passage together in class, then answering comprehension questions. I've found the trivia point system to be very motivating for them!
I am a trained youth services librarian and ESL teacher with experience in hosting book clubs and other reading-related activities, all of which I incorporated reading comprehension skills into.
Learners will need to be able to print out the teacher-provided passages to read aloud in class. If you do not have access to a printer and would like to take the class, you could always read the passages ahead of time in the online document I provide, and refer to it using a separate device when it comes time for the trivia questions.
Each class will have a comprehension section at the end, where after we read the passage together, I'll ask questions about what they read. This will test their knowledge of the passages.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
All passages will come from ReadWorks.org with special permission.
