US Grade 2 - 5
Students will be assigned a weekly spelling list. During live classes, we will discuss patterns in the words and spelling rules as they apply. A list of 20 spelling words and five "bonus words" will be provided. Students will be expected to participate by writing the spelling words as modeled and trying different ways to study the words. We will also discuss the proper usage and share creative work. Instruction follows the Phono-Graphix method for teaching reading and spelling. This method was developed with the dyslexic learner in mind. Daily assignments will be given and expect a test at the end of the week! Each week a new list will be assigned. This class is also offered in a flex format for students who prefer not to attend live classes. The flex class can also be a great alternative when the live class is sold out! You can find the flex class listing here: https://outschool.com/classes/third-grade-spelling-with-weekly-lists-focusing-on-phonemic-awareness-flex-ra8zM0Wx#usp7IL6ySc
Learning Goals
Students will learn proper spelling of third grade level words and their usage in the English language. Special focus on phonemic awareness, homophones, and words that just don't fit the "rules".

Lesson 2:
Spelling for the Visual Learner
I will model how to add color and shapes to the spelling words to identify where all the sounds are in the words and how each sound is spelled. (Colored pencils or fine-tipped markers are highly recommended when following this lesson!).
This session also addresses study skills so that students learn how to study effectively for their spelling tests. Many of these skills carry over to other academic classes as well.
25 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Review and Spelling Test
I will briefly provide instruction on words that students frequently struggle with so they remember those spellings on the test and beyond. After a refresher on those frequently misspelled words from the list, a spelling test is given.
Students are expected to write the spelling words as they are called. After the test, students will check their work for accuracy.
