This ongoing math class is designed for students who have completed the 3rd grade and reviews 3rd-grade math skills with a focus on critical thinking and word problems.

Class Experience

This class is designed to supplement homeschool or general education instruction for students moving to grade 4. This class reviews all 3rd-grade math concepts such as multiplying, adding, subtracting, working with fractions, basic geometry, number sense, and more. The last problem of the class will be a challenge problem!

Students should be able to do the following: Fluently add and subtract whole numbers within 1000, (0-12) multiplication and division, multiply 2 digit numbers, be familiar with basic fractions concepts (add and subtract numbers with the same denominator, identify equivalent fractions), and be able to perform basic 3rd-grade geometry (area and perimeter of quadrilaterals).
 
The class breakdown is as follows:

1. Introduction with math joke/riddle!
2. Quick review of the topic
3. Word problem practice
4. Challenge problem
5. Goodbye!

Optional assignments are available at parent's request.

Topics Include:
Multiplication/division with word problems and critical thinking
All operations complex word problems (multiplication, division, add and subtract up to 3 digit numbers with and without regrouping)  
Adding columns 
Rounding and Estimation
Find missing numbers. 
2 step word problems and word problems with unnecessary information. 
Financial Literacy: profit word problems  
Shopping and money critical thinking 
Telling Time and Elapsed Time word problems
Temperature word problems
Geometric word problems (quadrilateral properties and area/perimeter, irregular shape perimeter, volume)
Fraction word problems
Decimal Word problems

Learning Goals

Students will be refreshed and practice 3rd grade math skills

Any printouts, paper and writing utensil, or a whiteboard and marker
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
