Class Experience

US Grade 3
In this 3rd-grade continuous math course, students will focus on building a deep understanding of ONE essential math concept at a time EACH WEEK as indicated by the Common Core State Standards. This class is designed to strengthen skills in these mathematical concepts. The weekly content focus will be chosen randomly and change each week.

Throughout the course, we’ll cover a range of essential 3rd-grade math topics, including:
- Addition and Subtraction: Mastering multi-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping.
- Multiplication and Division: Understanding the relationship between multiplication and division, learning multiplication tables, and solving word problems.
- Fractions: Identifying and comparing fractions, understanding parts of a whole, and simplifying fractions.
- Geometry: Learning about shapes, lines, angles, and understanding the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.
- Measurement: Using units to measure length, weight, and volume, and learning about time and money.
- Word Problems: Applying math concepts to real-world scenarios, helping students strengthen problem-solving skills.

This course is for those wanting additional practice with what they already know or need more help understanding. With that being said, students can join at any time as I will be teaching ONE topic/standard/skill each week. For example, one week we may focus on multiplying, the next week will be division and the following week may be learning about shapes. This is to allow the student to gain extra help with their skills.

We will begin each class with a quick review of previous lessons to reinforce understanding. We will then move into a mini-lesson using guided examples, followed by group practice and then independent work.

There will be discussion and games to ensure all students are engaging and interactive. I encourage questions and curiosity.

Learning Goals

Students will gain fluency in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, including solving problems with multi-step operations and understanding basic math facts (such as multiplication tables).
Students will deepen their understanding of place value, recognizing the value of digits in numbers up to 1,000, and will use this knowledge to solve problems involving larger numbers.
