10 lessons//5 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Multiplication With Repeated AdditionThis lesson builds on the students prior knowledge of addition to show the student how addition can be used to both understand and solve multiplication problems.Lesson 2Multiplication With ArraysIn this lesson we will create visual representations of multiplication problems to easily understand and solve each problem.Week 2Lesson 3Multiplication With Equal GroupsThis lesson is a highly visual way for students to see their multiplication problems represented with a picture so that they can easily understand the meaning of multiplication and solve each problem accurately.Lesson 4Multiplication With Base 10In this lesson we will use base 10 blocks to understand how place values can be easily multiplied in multiplication problems with larger numbers.Week 3Lesson 5Multiplication With Expanded FormIn this lesson we take the place value concepts learned in our base 10 blocks lesson and we will learn how to multiply larger numbers by simply expanding numbers out into smaller chunks.Lesson 6Division With Repeated SubtractionThis lesson utilizes the students prior knowledge of subtraction to show students how division problems can easily be solved by subtracting the same number over and over again.Week 4Lesson 7Division With ArraysIn this lesson students will use a visual representation to understand how division works and to easily solve division problems with accuracy.Lesson 8Division With Equal GroupsStudents will solve division problems by drawing groups to clearly see the meaning of each division problem and to be able to easily check each of their answers.Week 5Lesson 9Division With Fact FamiliesIn this lesson we will explore the connection between multiplication and division to easily solve division problems. Students will be able to see how their knowledge of multiplication math facts can help them to solve division problems quickly.Lesson 10Division With RemaindersStudents will learn what happens when we have a division problem that does not divide evenly and there is a remainder at the end. This lesson is at an introductory level but students will be able to apply this skill to much larger division problems over time.
