Welcome to third grade math! This course doesn't have live meetings. This series of 4 classes (Fall, Winter I, Winter II, & Spring,) can be used as your student's sole math course for their year or as a supplement to another math class or curriculum. Students should have successfully completed a 2nd grade math course. We will work through the Singapore Math Curriculum which is aligned with the Common Core math standards. Three recorded video lessons per week will be posted in the...
Students will be able to use place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest ten or hundred. Students will be able to fluently add and subtract within 1000. Students will be able to demonstrate various strategies for computing subtraction and addition problems. Students will begin to master whole number products and develop understanding of what multiplication represents.
When I was in school, I fell victim to math phobia and believed I was "bad" at math. Now I pride myself on meeting students where they are at and building their confidence to see they can learn any concept. I have experience in traditional 3rd and 4th grade classrooms teaching math and have seen first hand the difference in student achievement when they build confidence in themselves. This creates a life long love of learning which is even more valuable than the specific skills they will learn in my classroom. Our team of teachers have several years of online educational experience in various grade levels and subjects. Both of our teachers graduated college with honors and are life long learners themselves. We are excited to share our love of learning with your children!
Students will need to view lessons recorded by the teacher and completing practice problems. Students will also have assignments to upload to the classroom such as problem explanations and writing and exchanging word problems. Failure to complete this work as it is assigned will cause your learner to fall behind quickly.
A Singapore math workbook, spiral notebook, and manipulatives are included in the price of the class. You may also occasionally need to print out materials such as tests to bring to class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will informally assess all students on an ongoing basis. At the end of each chapter, a formal test will be given to monitor student progress. A formal letter grade can be provided upon request at the beginning of the course.
No live meetings, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
