Description
Class Experience
My goal is for students to develop mathematical number sense that allows them to confidently meet all of the Common Core Standards for 3rd grade. We will utilize a series of "I Can Statements" to focus our goals overtime. I would like to see students learn to independently reason and solve problems on their own, and learn to enjoy math as a valuable skill that can be used in their everyday lives. I will model these concepts using appropriate tools and props to help students develop better math skills and gain an affinity for learning and using math skills beyond the classroom.
I am a former licensed public school teacher (3rd Grade) with over 10 years of experience working in the classroom. I am the founder of MommyBee Academy, a Montessori inspired homeschool which focuses on learning through a planned environment and utilizing Common Core concepts for elementary school readiness. I have a successful YouTube Channel and Instagram page that gives mothers helpful tips and ideas for educating elementary-aged students.
Optional homework will be assigned based on the individual need of the student. Based on my assessment of student needs, worksheets will be uploaded to the classroom for additional practice outside of class. The amount of homework depends on the student's availability outside of class, as well as their individual needs for progress. The teacher will make recommendations, but will not require work outside of class.
Students will need to bring a pencil, eraser, colored pencils/crayons, and a notebook to class work out math problems. It is preferred that students bring a composition book so they can keep track of their work from class to class. Students are not required to take all of the classes in a sequence, but it is helpful if they can keep all of their work in once place so they can refer back to key concepts and ideas in their free time. If students are assigned worksheets, I will notify parents ahead of time if students needs to bring them to class. If students would like for me to grade/ check their work, I am happy to do so upon request.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
2 hours per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
